Comparison of the Effects of Regional and Global Dust Storms on the Composition of the Ionized Species of the Martian Upper Atmosphere Using MAVEN

The densities of three ion species in the Martian upper atmosphere were compared during MY33 and MY34 regional global dust storms (RDS 2016 GDS 2018, respectively) using data from neutral gas mass spectrometer Mars volatile evolution mission. trends their relative abundances altitudes to some examined 10 September–4 October 27 May–18 June at 160–240 km. Both RDS 2018 caused variations abundance onsets 18–21 September 5–8 respectively. O2+, CO2+, O+ increased 2016. Meanwhile, O2+ decreased CO2+ density 2018. Ion species’ indicate that 2016, increase may be by or rather than O CO2 densities. decrease
